Poverty relief efforts in Tibet Autonomous Region should be carried out with a clear vision of the most poverty-stricken population, said Vice-Premier Wang Yang.

He was visiting Tibet to investigate and survey poverty alleviation, agriculture, animal husbandry, and tourism in the region.

In Nagqu prefecture, the highest-altitude region of Tibet, Wang emphasized that poverty is often intertwined with economic, ethnic, and religious issues.

In Lhasa, he visited agriculture and animal husbandry production centers, a scientific research base and local enterprises, where he stressed the need to take advantage of local resources which would help local people shake off poverty and improve their quality of life.

Wang noted that high-end tourism should be developed by exploiting local natural landscapes and culture.

The vice-premier also said poverty-stricken people should be guided and supported to participate in and enjoy the development of modern agriculture, animal husbandry and tourism.
