BEIJING — A relief fund of 96 million yuan ($14 million) has been allocated to Northwest China’s Gansu province to support local disaster relief work, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM).

Granted by the Ministry of Finance and MEM, the relief fund will mainly be used to aid the rescue and relief operations of a landslide in Zhouqu county of Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture.

The work consists of rescuing victims, evacuating villagers, investigating local dangers and supporting local telecommunication and transport.

A series of natural disasters have hit Gansu province since July. Heavy rainstorms triggered a landslide in Zhouqu on July 12, with no casualties.

A working team had been sent by the MEM to lead and assist the local government in relief work.
