China takes step toward standardized urban rail transit with newly developed subway train
Updated: June 30, 2021 10:55 Xinhua

China unveiled a self-developed subway train on June 28, taking the country's first step toward a national standardized urban rail transit.

The subway train developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co Ltd possesses independent intellectual property rights, with over 85 percent of its components fully made in China.

Running between Central China's Xuchang city and Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport in Henan province, the train has a design speed of 120 km/h and can operate autonomously.

Most current subway trains in China equip components made to different standards, resulting in higher maintenance costs. The new train is part of a project that aims to promote a standardized system with self-developed technologies, to extend the life cycle of subway train units and provide equipment support for sustainable urban rail transit.
