Hong Kong railway co-location ordinance to come into operation on Sept 4

HONG KONG — The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (co-location) Ordinance will come into operation on Sept 4 in preparation for the implementation of the co-location arrangement at Hong Kong’s high-speed railway station, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government announced on Aug 30.

The commencement notice of the ordinance will be gazetted on Aug 31, stipulating that the ordinance will come into operation on Sept 4, weeks before the commissioning of the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL).

This move is “in order to dovetail with the preparatory works for the implementation of the co-location arrangement at the West Kowloon Station of the XRL,” the HKSAR government said in a news release.

The Hong Kong Section of the XRL is set to be commissioned on Sept 23. To maximize convenience to cross-border passengers, the HKSAR government announced last year to implement the co-location arrangement at the West Kowloon Station, and the HKSAR Legislative Council completed the legislation of the ordinance in June this year.
